JAMES FLETCHER

Walking a line between photo documentarian, art and social commentary James Fletcher has been faithfully snapping images for over 20 years. Having traveled through a number of foreign cultures, of both higher and lower socio-economical status than his native Australia, his focus often becomes the people of the region, each with their own unique story, etched in their face, reflected in their demeanor and voiced in their community.

In contrast to these individual subjects, Fletcher has tried to document the natural, the spiritual and religious narratives of these regions. From choreographed physical environments to the wild unkempt waste that underscores the idealistic stage most of us are familiar with.

Each print available is designed as a moment in time, but whose narrative evolves with its owners personal growth. No judgments have been cast, no preordained conceptions, no ingrained dogma. Each image has a beauty based in fascination, anonymity and recognition.

“I adore the idea that each of the my photos are a first chapter of a story, an dramatic turning point of a fable or the finale of a poem authored by a stranger, authenticated by a buyer and translated from my lens.”
